Sussex Ladies Gain Promotion
(August 05, 2010)Sussex ladies triumphed in division three of the Aegon Summer County Cup played in Dorset. Despite losing the final match to Hampshire & Isle of Wight, captain Caroline Goldring and her squad finished top of the group.
The squad of Julie Hanger, Kate Smith, Elizabeth Thoms, Lucy Warburton, Natasha Khan, Olivia Smith and Julie Hobbs finished on the same amount of points as Hampshire and IOW but won the group having won a higher percentage of sets.
Having defeated the likes of Berkshire, Kent, South Wales and Cambridgeshire they will be playing in division two next year.
The men had a tough week in Norfolk where, despite winning their first two matches, lost the next three to finished second bottom.
The team of Tom Pocock, James Cuthell, Jordan Freitas, Max Jones, Ned Boone, Brett Macdonald and Scott Sears needed to beat the hosts on the last day to stay up but lost by seven rubbers to two to end up going down.
